Museu Casa do Pontal

With a live performance of Nicholas Krassik in a beautifull garden decorated with wooden furnitures by La Vereda and many important people and authorities presents, was opened last saturday a new area at Museu Casa do Pontal, presenting an amazing exhibition of ceramics from Vale do Jequitinhonha(north of Minas Gerais) called " Afluencias"

The Casa do Pontal is situated on a 12,000 m2 plot of land in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes, near the Barra da Tijuca, between the solid granite stone, Pedra Branca, and Prainha. Approximately 200 folk artists from every region of Brazil have their work covering the second half of the XX Century, represented in the exhibit.
Almost the entire collection is the work of the man who created the Museu Casa do Pontal, Jacques Van de Beuque. Since his death, the collection has continued to be expanded, through its research and travels around the country for the acquisition of new works of Brazilian Folk Artists

The collection of the Museu Casa do Pontal, in public view or stored in a climate controlled environment, is made up of more than 8,000 works of Brazilian Folk Art, counting sculptures, figures, wood carvings, models and mechanized and articulated sets. The works were produced using various different types of materials, such as clay, wood, cloth, sand, iron, aluminum, bread dough, straw and wire.

The star of the night was the 86 years old artist Isabel Mendes da Cunha, a living reference for her art work in Brazil and world wide. The Exihibition will stay on till the 29th of March 2009, to know more about the museum: www.museucasadopontal.com.br
