90 ANOS

Castelinho38 went to Sao Paulo last week end in order to represent a big community that could not be there in this very special event: in the 29th of March, our beloved grandmother, aunt and sister ROBERTA turned 90 years old. Nonna, Tia e Irma Roberta celebrated her 90th birthday in Jaragua, neighborhood of big SAO PAULO, together with relatives and friends.



This incredible person happened to be THE grandmother and every year comes to Brazil to spend some time at Castelinho38, leaving a lot of recipes, friends and muitas saudades.
She was very happy to host more than 100 persons in the BBQ (churrasco) she offered on Saturday with the help of many relatives and friends. The party was a familiar event at Maria's house, where Nonna stays regularly in Sao Paulo.



She got many phone calls from Italy and all over Brasil where Nonna has sons, grandchildren, nephews, godchildren and friends. Since many people asked us to send news and pictures from the celebration, they will all be happy to read this post.



It is a tribute to an elder person that has so much to share and to teach us: after all she lived and experienced in her life it is a wonderful experience to see the joy in her eyes during the party!

Curtas em alta no Rio !

Começou na última quinta-feira, dia 27, a 13º edição do Festival It’s All True – É Tudo Verdade.
O festival é uma grande celebração de toda essa fórmula estética que temos conhecimento hoje em dia, baseada na teoria de que com uma câmera na mão e uma boa idéia você pode fazer uma revolução. O nome diz tudo: É Tudo Verdade – são documentários, os mais realistas e relevantes possíveis, porém sem ofuscar o talento de seus diretores, a não ser que seja necessário em nome dos fatos reais.
Na programação, filmes de peso como “Tiros em Columbine”, de Michael Moore.



Este ano, além da exibição dos curtas, estão programados encontros com diretores e debates sobre retrospectiva do documentário experimental brasileiro no Instituto Moreira Salles, no Artplex Botafogo e no CCBB.

Arte toma conta de Santa Teresa!

Santa Teresa está em pleno agito cultural. Exposições, recitais, música... é a arte tomando conta do bairro.
Todo ano, na época da Páscoa, acontece a Semana Cultural de Santa Teresa. Durante o evento, que está na sua quinta edição e acontece entre os dias 18 e 31 de março, estão programadas diversas atividades como encenação teatral, intervenções artísticas pelas ruas e bares, poesia-recitas, além de várias exposições fotográficas.
E claro que o Castelinho38, como apreciador da bela arte, não ficou de fora do evento. Em nosso salão principal está a exposição “Carnavália”, da fotógrafa Kelly Lima.





A mostra reúne 20 trabalhos desta artista que há mais de cinco anos dedica-se ao carnaval carioca, trabalho documental desenvolvido junto a festas populares. Este ano a fotógrafa se voltou para captar as texturas, gestuais, caras e bocas da Marques de Sapucaí.

A abertura da exposição aconteceu na última sexta-feira, dia 21, e contou com o apoio da Cachaçaria Magnífica. Tivemos muitos visitantes e amigos prestigiando o evento.

GUESTS OF THE MONTH (March)

Katia and Marco are working together for Tucano ( www.tucano.it ) a famous Design company that produce computers bags and accessories, and they travel the world constantly for business. But for their holiday they have chosen Castelinho38!!
They are coming from Milan ( Italy ) and arrived in Rio with a last minute flight instead of going to their winter holiday in Val Badia (Italian Alps )!!



Katia and Marco were our guests in December 2006, and unfortunately by that time weather conditions were not the best, and Katia did not see the city on its normal sunny days. Marco, a great basketball player, is very familiar with Brasil as he has been working for TIM-Brasil (Mobile telecommunication) during a couple of years in the past and was on his third time at Castelinho38, being one of our first guest during July 2006. During their stay this time they acted like perfect "cariocas" and spent a lot of time on the beaches, hired a car and discovered the sand of Barra, Priainha and Grumari, visited a favela and almost played basketball on the local playground.



We are missing them already and looking forward to have them again in our premises, they were the perfect guests, and left a lot of friends here. Don t go skiing and come back soon!!

During our last visit in Europe,which touched Venice, Trieste, Paris and London, we had the pleasure to spend time with our friends sons and daughters, some of them recently born and others between 1 and 3 years old.
Conversation with them was not easy sometimes but we managed to understand each other well.

Winter time in Europe can be tough, low temperatures, cold wind and rain are sometimes difficult to face with a baby. But all the parents and sons we met were doing incredibly well so far, even better than ourselves struggling against the cold...

Of course the possibility of coming to visit us at Castelinho38 has been an injection of warm and sunny vibes for most of them, even the youngest ones seemed to enjoy Castelinho38 pictures and views.

Visiting the ROYAL Family

On the way back to Brazil from its first African Tour 2008, Castelinho38 High Commission finally meet the Royal Family in London. As you should know by now, Castelinho38 is today a wonderful Lodge thanks to the enterpreneurs ideas of its King and Queen. The Royal family has a new member now, Princess Grace, who is a year an a half old and already visited her Castel last year during the offical gathering of August.



The "Royals" live in the Borough of Islington, north of London and are easily found strolling on Upper Street on saturdays mornings, queueing for a freshly baked bread at local Boulangerie or doing their shopping at the organic Farmers market just behind the Town Hall....Far away from London front-page papers and local pub gossips....



We ve been kindly invited for a tipical Saturday Brunch at the local Gastropub " The Drapers Arms" where Princess Grace is already well known and therefore we didn t have problem to get a table there. The Pub is child friendly and by 14hs it was busy with "little customers" and their parents running around them, while tasting the cold draft beers and Guinnesses.



At home Princess Grace has been trained at use of Fork by HRM in order to be ready to have her first Brazilian BBQ during the next offical visit in Rio de Janeiro. We would like to thank again the Royals for the great moments and hospitality, but first of all thanks for the great season Castelinho38 just closed.

LUME TEATRO

O LUME Teatro começou sua temporada 2008. De 05 a 14 de março, eles estarão no Centro de Convivência Cultural Carlos Gomes, em Campinas (SP), com os espetáculos “O que seria de nós sem as coisas que não existem”, “Cravo, Lírio e Rosa” e “Shi-Zen, 7 Cuias”. No ano passado o Lume ficou hospedado aqui no Castelinho38 durante quase 3 meses na epoca da temporada carioca 2007.




Since its creation, LUME has created 23 performances, and currently maintains a number of shows in repertory. With their combination of performances, workshops and technical demonstrations, the company tours extensively around the world, having visited to date more than 20 different countries.

To compliment the investigations made by the company's fixed group of performers, exchanges between LUME and other artists has become a constant practice, bringing the group into contact with other ways of thinking and doing art, benefitting from the richness of different approaches and thus diversifying and clarifying the groups' own particular path. Along the years, LUME has cultivated special working relationships with master practioners Iben Nagel Rasmussen (Odin Teatret, Denmark), Natsu Nakajima (Japan), Nani and Leris Colombaioni (Italy), Sue Morrison (Canada), Tadashi Endo (Japan) and Kai Bredholt (Odin Teatret, Denmark).
