NYC

This time the C38 manager Fabio went to NYC to spend his vacations and visit his good friend Paul Michel who lived in Brasil in 2007.
NYC has surpassed mine expectations in all ways.

Cultural evenings at the museums, shopping, walking downtown going astray through random streets, or just chilling out at Central Park.

At night Manhattan can be even more beautiful, the lights the people;........ an endless options of bars, restaurants and night clubs turned the night in my favorite part of the day.
This city certainly deserves to be called "The capital of the world" for such a diversity of cultures and people in the same place.

You can be sure that there is always something going on, it doesn't matter what you'd like to do, they can entertain you some way.
Driving around it is also fun, Long island and Cony Island are nice places to go, but don't expect much from the beach.

Philadelphia is another place that worth a visit. The first capital of USA has more to offer than a cracked bell.
Philly has a beautiful architecture, lots of history and the best cheese stake. The panels painted in the back of the buildings worth the trip itself.

Back to NY it was already time do leave.
Time flies and it seems that 30 days in the city weren't enough. I ll be back indeed.

Work in progress

Unfortunately C38 closed his doors for a few days.
We ll be closed for approximately 15 days.
6 people are working full time 6 days a week trying to keep the tight schedule.

The work consist in demolish the old office, extend the existing porch in the back of the house, demolish the old bathroom of the Suite Mangueira and built a new one and change the tiles of both porches.

After all the work were done, Castelinho ll have the same look that it use to have 100 years ago.
In the pictures you can realize that there is a lot of work t be done, but like the "bondinho" hopefully we ll be soon back on tracks...

Prainha & Grumari

Described as one of the bests beaches in RIO, Prainha ("little beach") and Grumari are perfect destination to spend a day away from the crowd and the city. About an hour drive from the centre and leaving the City behind when going South, Prainha is the ideal beach for surfers and nature lovers.

A couple of kiosks serving food and cold drinks, a Natural Park with nice trails in the middle of the Atlantic forest and toilet facilities, surfboards and colourful bikinis on the beach, almost empty on week days....something like paradise

The scenary is still there to remember how the coast used to be untill 30 -40 years ago in closer destination like Barra or Recreio, the nature is all over from the top of the mountain till the shore.

Grumari is not far from there, having a longer streach of sand and even less people around, with a flat green area separating the beach from the mountain behind it. At the end a small fisherman village with a river, where restaurants and bars offers drinks and fresh fish plates.

Only inconvenient is there are no public transport going there, so you might want to hire a car or ask a "carioca" for a lift. C38 guests we brought the other day, enjoyed very much and ask us to recommend it to everybody.

One of the most present background in the scenary of Rio de Janeiro, is the mountain of "Sugar Loaf-Pao de Açucar" a monolithic of granite and quartz that rise straight from the water's edge around Rio de Janeiro and marks the entrance of the Guanabara Bay.

Rising 396 metres (1,299 ft) above sea-level, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined loaf sugar. However, it is believed by some that the name actually derives from Pau-nh-acuqua (“high hill”) in the Tupi-Guarani language, as used by the indigenous Tamoios.

A glass-paneled cable car, capable of holding 75 passengers, runs along a 1400-metre route between the peaks of pao de açucar and cara de cao. The original cable car line was built in 1912. So familiar is this peak, the mere sight of it in a film is sufficient to establish the setting as Rio.

Visitors can watch rock climbers on Sugarloaf and the other two mountains in the area: Morro da Babilônia (Babylon Mountain), and Morro da Urca (Urca's Mountain). Together, they form one of the largest urban climbing areas in the world, with more than 270 routes

Within 30 minutes walk along a footpath in the middle of the tropical forest it is possible to reach the first rock, Morro da Urca and enjoy the incredible city of Rio de Janeiro.

Brasil - Bolivia

Like everywhere else in the world, national teams are playing to qualify for the next Football World Cup in SOuth Africa 2010. Brasil is the favorite team of south america and five times world champion, with most of its players shining in Europe.
So see a game of Brazilian Team its something very special.

Last wednesday Brasil played Bolivia in RIo, at the brand new olimpic stadium "Joao Havelange" in the north suburb of Engenho de Dentro. Our partner BE A LOCAL where organizing the expedition to see the match, that unfortunately wasn t one of the best.

Brasil and Bolivia finished 0 x 0, and the public was a bit disappointed at the end, especially after the last won abroad on Chile for 3 x 0. But for most of the foreigners that were there with us it has been a unique moment of culture and football.

Gloria's Market - Feira da Gloria

Every sunday at Gloria s main road, the usual and traditional street Market is a meeting point of all the neighbors and friends. Being so close to Santa Teresa, the Sunday Market is one of the nicest tour we always recommended to our guests. A unique opportunity to discover the hundreds species of different and exotic fruits of Brasil.

The Market has its fish, meat and vegetable sections too, together with second hand objects, accessories and very often live music or Dj sets. Streets beggars and famous actors share the space with many locals and the vendors.

The Gloria Market has its own Bests, like the Caldo de cana (sugar cane sirup) truck that is where many locals have their brunch, or the famous Mr. Joao Tapioca stop, one of the best specialities from North East prepared with love on the spot by Mr Joao himself.

Every day of the week the street market is taking place in a different neighborhood of RIO zona Sul like Copacabana, Botafogo, Ipanema, Largo do Machado, Bairro de Fatima and Gloria.
Every saturday on the square Camoes, in Gloria there is an Organic Product Market, with a wide selections that comes directly from the farms around the Mountain Region of RIO.

Ambassador of Bergerac

Zouloup is the artistic name of our friend Pascal Philippe, the Amabassador of Bergerac. Famous region of South West France, where next year - while France will be celebrated in Brazil, for the cultural year 2009 -the Ambassador have kindly invited C38 to be part of a big happening that will take place the 14th of July.

The guests and friends of C38 might have seen Pascal very often in our premises, and admired his art works on tiles that has been exhibited during "Portas Abertas" together with other artists from Santa Teresa. He is now getting ready to go back to its region, just in time for the first wines of the season.

Not many had the chance to experience his skills in the kitchen, mixing old traditional receipts with tropical ingredients, but C38 can guarantee Pascal art is spreading everywhere, in the food, artworks and even on the football pitch. Come back soon dear friend, we wish you all the best!
