GUESTS OF THE MONTH (January 09)

Bruno & Sabrina Romano take the award of Castelinho38 guests of the month of January 2009.
The couple is coming from Trieste, and decided to stay with us during 2 weeks in order to know the city of Rio and all its secrets hidden corners, beaches and shops.
Born in Salerno, Bruno is a typical italian always in a good and funny mood, enjoying the summer time and hot days of RIO. Bruno is a volleyball lover and spent most of his days in Ipanema Beach. Maracana stadium was also one of the highlight of his trip.

Sabrina fell in love with all different kind of Havaianas shoes, the dress shops and the precious stones of H. Stern. Her passion here at C38 is our female dog Samba, together they are playing around all the time. They have been very much at home since the first days and are mainly using public transport to go around, they ve strongly recommended to have a bus trip, as bus drivers seem to play Ayrton Senna in a F1 race against other buses.
Bruno and Sabrina have been so nice in taking with them Valentina, just arrived from Trieste as well and show her the city and its fanny parts.

Paraty

One of the top destination not too far from Castelinho38, is the colonial village of Paraty, at just 4 hours by bus. Paraty was founded formally as a town by portuguese colonizers in 1667, After the discovery of the world's richest gold mines in 1696 in the mountains of Minas Gerais, Paraty became an export port for gold to Rio de Janeiro and from there on to Portugal. The ensuing gold rush led to the construction of the "Caminho do Ouro" or "Gold Trail", a 1200 kilometer road, paved in steep areas with large stones.

Paraty is known for the cobblestone-paved streets throughout the Historic Center District. No cars or trucks are allowed in this part of town. Only foot traffic or bicycles. Horses and carts are a very common sight in Paraty and are frequently used all around the city. Paraty has been able to maintain many of its historic buildings. Much of the architecture of the city has not changed for 250 years or more.

here are many musical and cultural events, the most prominent of which is the FLIP, International Literary Festival of Paraty. The town is also known for its local festivals on Catholic holy dates, such as the Feast of the Holy Ghost.

There are also many colorful, colonial houses (refurbished in most cases), many of which have been transformed into shops, pousadas, restaurants and bars. Paraty has become a popular tourist area in recent years, renowned for the beauty of the town and the coast and mountains in the region.

The town is located on the Bay of Ilha Grande, which is dotted with many tropical islands. Rising up some 1,000 meters behind the town are the tropical forests, mountains, and waterfalls. Paraty is surrounded by many Nature Parks including Serra da Bocaina National Park, the Park Reserve of Joatinga and the Environmentally Protected Area of Cairuçu, where the village of Trindade is located.

Empretecos no C38

They also stopped in Ilha Grande and Buzios, but in Rio they really felt like princesses in our little castle.

Rose Anne, Annetje and Liz had the chance to extend their stay in Rio and we wanted to thank them for their preference to stay at C38 again. Up Holland!!

Sun & Shadow

After the typical Rainy days of the Summer in Rio, sun is shinning back on Castelinho38, Santa Teresa - Rio and all its guests are happier now. Beaches are crowded and all touristic attractions with long queues, looks like this year everybody wants to be HERE.

The sun in summer time is really hot during the peak hours and therefore you need to look for some shadow and breeze to cool down the temperature.

With the recent restructure of the terrace, the outside area is much bigger and nicer offering our guest all the comfort and coolness they might need.

When we hear about the cold winter that is hitting Europe and the North Emisphere, we are sending the latest flower of our garden to you all who are freezing now. Summertime and the living is easy..

New year new life

Happy New Year to all of us. After the parties and the commemorations we are getting ready to rock in this 2009. As often happens new year -new life, this is at least the intention of our dearest friend ALICE and FABIO.

Alice left C38 to start her own business and help a friend with PR in a CLub in Lapa, we ll miss her always and so our guests. Fortunately the new girl Talise, is as good and as nice as Alice, so the Front Desk will not suffer too much.

On the other hand Fabio, our grand Manager is say goodbye to us after almost 2 years in the house. Thanks for everything Fabio, you are now family and the door is always open. Good luck for your future plans of travelling and working abroad.
New life to everybody in 2009!!
