Serra Carioca - Montain Region

A few hours drive from RIO de Janeiro, there are plenty of options for those who loves montains and a cooler climate.As the second biggest forest area in the Rio de janeiro state, in Macae de Cima we find the best nature expression.



Located on the mountains of Macae de Cima Forest (environment protected area), are the cities of Mury, Lumiar and Sao Pedro. Distant only four km from each other, and only minutes from Nova Friburgo, these cities offer you many attractions as waterfalls, valleys and mountains. During the day, walking, hiking, canoeing, horse riding through the rivers, valleys, ponds, and rivers beaches; at night the charming presence of restaurants, and small shops, inviting you to a relaxing amusement.



Lumiar and São Pedro da Serra are located in the forest of Rio de Janeiro, around 700 meters high. Weather is very nice in the summer, and intense cold in the winter



Sao Pedro city offers you also valleys and mountains. By car or bus, from the bus terminal of Nova Friburgo, go to direction the cities of Lumiar and São Pedro da Serra, 35 km far from the center of Nova Friburgo.

Barcas -Ferries

C38 team strongly recommend the visit to Niteroi city.
This town is located in the other side of the Guanabara Bay, and it has an amazing view from Rio.


Niteroi is also famous for the fish market and the Museum of Contemporary Art, that was designed by Oscar Niemeyer.
The museum is the main attraction and also the post card of the city.


The best way to reach the city is using the ferry boat.
The ferry leaves from Praça XV every day, each 30 min


The crossing takes approximately 20min and give you a different perspective from Rio.
Once there you are only 5 min away from the museum and Icarai beach.

Autumn Season

Not everybody knows that one of the best time to be in RIO is during the Fall....when temperatures are not so hot anymore, and light and colors are amazing..



It s the perfect time to enjoy the open spaces of Castelinho38, there are guests who are not able to leave the terrace bar, from the breakfast time till late afternoon, they always find an excuse to stick around..



Lately the best excuse has been the new expresso coffee machine and its hot drinks. The coffee we use is called Cafe Orfeu and its considered one of the best coffee in Brasil.



It is not only about the coffee, as our staff went through a special Barista course and is now able to extract the perfect blend for our guests. Thanks to Master Barista Emilio Rodriguez and Casa do Barista



Another excuse is the basketball corner, where you can practice your basket skills and ejoy the view of the city and Guanabara bay. As we are talking about sport,it s impossible not to mention our sailing references in the terrace.



At the end of May, Castelinho38 will be racing in Venice, at CICO, Italian Olimpic Classes Championship, in the 49er Category, with the boat ITA 656..more news about the race will follow..



The garden is the perfect spot to enjoy the view, the shadow and a good book...A special guest has just arrived at Castelinho38..Everybody s GRANDMOTHER Roberta will spend her 90th Fall season with us.

New look of the bar

Castelinho38 has recently undergone some exciting changes in order to improve the experience of our guests. In order to better accommodate your needs, we have expanded our washroom. Castelinho38 has also revamped the patio area and bar, now furnished with wood antiques which add a classic yet cozy charm. Besides the traditional drinks, we now also have an espresso machine for our guests and friends to savor while enjoying the beautiful view.
